Terms of service

The service

Velto Mail provides email hosting on domains you own or control, including mailboxes, webmail, and calendar and contact sync. An account can connect any number of domains and may have up to 20 mailboxes across all of them. On request, we may raise that limit in steps of 20 after reviewing the account’s sending history and payment record.

Your account

You must be at least the age of majority where you live and authorized to act for the business you sign up. You are responsible for the people you give mailboxes to, for keeping passwords secure, and for having the right to use the domains you connect.

The email address you sign up with receives your account’s storage, security and renewal notices. It must be outside Velto, and you can change it at any time.

Acceptable use

You must follow our acceptable use policy. In short: no spam, no unsolicited bulk mail, nothing illegal. We may limit, suspend or close mailboxes that break it, as described in that policy.

Pricing and billing

Mailboxes are billed yearly, in advance, in US dollars, with one renewal date for the whole account. Each mailbox renews at the price you paid, for as long as you keep it.

Mailboxes added during the year, and storage upgrades, are charged right away for the time remaining until your account’s renewal date. A storage upgrade moves that mailbox to the current price of its new storage size.

Applicable taxes, such as GST/HST for Canadian customers, are added at checkout. There is no surcharge for paying by card.

Unpaid renewals

If your account’s yearly renewal isn’t paid, sending is paused on every mailbox in the account 7 days after the paid year ends. At 30 days the account is suspended: no one can sign in or send. Throughout, incoming mail keeps arriving and nothing is deleted. Once the renewal is paid, everything is restored automatically. We email the account’s owners and admins at each stage.

Cancellation and refunds

You can cancel any mailbox at any time from your dashboard. A cancelled mailbox keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. Payments are not refunded, including for unused time, except where the law requires otherwise.

Storage

Each mailbox has the storage size you chose. We warn you when it is 70% and 90% full. When a mailbox is full, new mail to it is held back for 5 days (the sender’s server keeps retrying); after that, new mail is returned to the sender until you free up space or move to a larger size.

Your data

You own the content in your mailboxes. You give us only the permissions needed to store, process and deliver it for you. You can export it at any time, at no charge. Our privacy policy explains how we handle it.

After a cancelled mailbox’s paid period ends, its mail is kept 30 days (90 days on the Compliance plan), exportable throughout, and then permanently deleted. If you remove a domain, its mailboxes become read-only for 30 days so you can export them, and are then deleted. If a domain moves to another Velto account, its mailboxes and mail move with it intact, and they renew on that account’s renewal date.

Availability

We work to keep the service running at all times and keep regular backups, but we cannot promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Planned maintenance will be announced in advance where possible.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or lost business.

Changes and governing law

We will notify account holders by email of material changes to these terms at least 30 days before they take effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of New Brunswick and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

These terms are published in English and French. Both versions are equally binding.
